  14.      (TUCSON, Ariz.--September 30, 1991)--Artisoft announced
  15.  
  16. today its new LANtastic 10BASE-T Starter Kit, packaging the
  17.  
  18. LANtastic Network Operating System software(for up to 300
  19.  
  20. users) with a Peer-Hub(TM) 10BASE-T concentrator, two AE-
  21.  
  22. 1/T(TM) Ethernet adapters, cabling and documentation.
  23.  
  24. Scheduled to ship in early October 1991, it is priced at
  25.  
  26. $899.

  28.      "The LANtastic 10BASE-T Starter Kit is designed to
  29.  
  30. provide an integrated hardware/software solution and one-stop
  31.  
  32. shop for end users and resellers," said Jack Schoof, Artisoft
  33.  
  34. President and CEO.

  36.      Artisoft develops and manufactures a full line of
  37.  
  38. hardware and software for local area networks including the
  39.  
  40. LANtastic Local Area Network.  The LANtastic network is a
  41.  
  42. peer-to-peer network that allows users of IBM-compatible
  43.  
  44. computers to connect and share information and peripheral
  45.  
  46. devices such as printers, hard drives and CD-ROMs.
  47.  
  48.      The AE-1/T Ethernet adapter is an 8-bit, ISA bus network
  49.  
  50. adapter for use with IBM PC/XT/AT 386/486 computers and
  51.  
  52. compatibles.  It offers a 10Mbps data transfer rate, supports
  53.  
  54. 8K of onboard RAM and is software-compatible with Novell's
  55.  
  56. NE1000 adapter.
  57.  
  58.      The AE-1/T Ethernet adapter's telephone-style RJ45 jack
  59.  
  60. connects to the Peer-Hub concentrator, or any standard
  61.  
  62. 10BASE-T hub, with unshielded twisted-pair cabling.  The
  63.  
  64. adapter includes a link-integrity LED to show if a proper
  65.  
  66. connection to the hub has been made.  The AE-1/T Ethernet
  67.  
  68. adapter also has a special connector for linking internally
  69.  
  70. to the Peer-Hub concentrator.
  71.  
  72.      The Peer-Hub concentrator is a complete 10BASE-T hub
  73.  
  74. residing in a host PC.  It has five external 10BASE-T ports
  75.  
  76. using modular RJ45 telephone-style jacks that can connect to
  77.  
  78. any standard 10BASE-T adapters.  Its network management
  79.  
  80. software allows the host PC to view the status of all ports,
  81.  
  82. as well as activate or disable each port individually.  Plus,
  83.  
  84. onboard EEPROM save the complete network configuration to
  85.  
  86. memory, guarding against power outage.

  88.      The Peer-Hub concentrator also has three special
  89.  
  90. internal connectors which have been designed to connect with
  91.  
  92. other Artisoft(TM) products.  One provides an internal
  93.  
  94. 10BASE-T connection to Artisoft's AE-1/T, AE-2/T(TM) or AE-
  95.  
  96. 3(TM) Ethernet adapters without using one of the five
  97.  
  98. external RJ45 ports.  Another internal connector is used to
  99.  
  100. link multiple Peer-Hub concentrators together; up to four per
  101.  
  102. PC.  The third option, with the separate purchase of an
  103.  
  104. Artisoft AUI Interface Kit, provides an internal coax
  105.  
  106. connection between the Peer-Hub concentrator and an Artisoft
  107.  
  108. AE-3 Ethernet adapter(which supports thin and thick coax in
  109.  
  110. addition to 10BASE-T connections).  Used in this manner, the
  111.  
  112. AUI Interface Kit creates a bridge between the 10BASE-T
  113.  
  114. network on the hub and a coax Ethernet segment attached to
  115.  
  116. the AE-3 Ethernet adapter.
